Filter Coffee

Who can resist filter coffee? Before instant coffee, filter coffee very famous. When instant coffee was introduced, the advertisement said that it is tasty as the filter coffee. My mom used to prepare coffee powder at home. I remember her buying coffee beans and roasting them. The aroma of fresh coffee would fill the house. She will then grind it to a fine powder and add it with chicory to make home made filter coffee powder. Nowadays even she has started drinking instant coffee. During my marriage, she gave me a coffee filter but I never used it. After seeing some posts on filter coffee, I decided to give it a try. The decoction should be very thick. My mom used to prepare two decoctions. As my father is a fan of black coffee, the second decoction goes into his coffee. Never boil the decoction to reheat it. Always boil water and place the required quantity of decoction in a small bowl inside the water to heat it. Add hot milk and sugar and give it a nice stir and serve hot.

The coffee filter has four parts.
There are two containers, one for the base which collects the decoction and the other with tiny holes which holds the coffee powder and water.

There is a lid and a stopper which regulates the flow of water from top container to the bottom container.

Place the container with holes on top of the base container.

Add coffee powder. My filter can hold 1 1/2cups of water and I use 7 tbs of coffee powder.

Place the stopper on the powder and press well.

Boil water and pour into the top container. Close with lid and set it aside for 1-2hours.

The decoction gets collected in the base container and is ready.

Add sugar and milk to decoction and serve hot. Use decoction as per your requirement. If you like strong coffee, add extra decoction.
