El Submarino – Argentine Hot Chocolate Recipe

For the second day of exploring the southern hemisphere, I have a really interesting as well as easy breezy recipe. Kids would go crazy over this because it has their favourtie ingredient chocolate. Submarino is nothing but submarine, and this drink is called as submarino as the chocolate bar sinks into the hot milk just like a submarine. This is a famous beverage in Argentina and Uruguay and also called as remo or the oar. The hot milk is served in a tall glass placed inside a stainless steel cup with handle for easy drinking. A chocolate bar is served along with it. The fun part is sinking the chocolate and stirring it with a long spoon until it melts. While drinking, some chocolate settles at the bottom and that sludge would be everyone’s favourite.

At first I had some other recipe chosen for Argentina, but after reading about this hot chocolate, I wanted to try this. As the recipe is really easy, I made this for Sruti after she came home from school. And I was really sure of her reaction because it was her favourite chocolate. I used the Dairy Milk bar for the drink, but use any good chocolate you like. The darker, the better. You can even add some sugar to the milk if you use dark chocolate. Froth the milk before serving to get nice foam on top. I didn’t do it, so it was looking very plain.

Ingredients:

Milk – 1 cup

Chocolate Bar – 1 ( 25 gm)

Procedure:

Heat milk and whisk until frothy.

Pour it in a serving glass.

Place it on a serving plate along with the chocolate bar and serve.

Drop the chocolate into the glass of hot milk and stir until it melts.

Relish!
