Mangodis are small nuggets made out of moong dhal. This is usually available at stores but making mangodis at home is also easy. As in Tamil Nadu we don’t get mangodis, I opted to try it at home. It is very easy to make mangodis at home. You need to sun dry the nuggets as we do for vadagams. But when I prepared it was rainy season and so I dried the mangodis in my oven. The oven is set to its minimum temperature. The tray is placed in the oven and the oven door is left slightly open. This set up is left overnight and the next morning the mangodis will be ready. But the oven dried mangodis became little reddish.
You can store it in air tight jar and use it in curries and gravies.
Wash and soak a cup of moong dhal for 3 hours.
Grind to a fine paste with out adding water.
Add salt and hing and whisk until the batter is fluffy.
Pinch small portion and place on a greased tray. Sun dry or oven dry and use it in curries and gravies.
Apart from.the color change, was there any change in its taste/ falvour?
I would love to try it out too
They turned out perfect as far as taste and flavour are concerned. So go ahead and make it and enjoy!
The sun-dried ones need to be roasted after drying to prevent weevils in them, also to add to curries, to prevent dis-integrating. As for the oven-baked ones, no additional roasting is required. Add directly to curries.
