We have arrived at the final week of this month’s Blogging Marathon. The theme I chose for this week is quite interesting. I hoped that the theme Sandwiches without bread will bring out the creative side of me. Sandwich is a common word which means a dish which has two or more components usually one which wraps or covers the other from top and bottom. The most common sandwich is made with any type of bread. But there are so many varieties of sandwich available without the use of bread. Right from cakes, cookies and crackers, lettuce leaves, cabbage leaves, vegetables or any meat can be used for sandwiching. The option is endless. So here I present you my first dish Caprese Salad Sandwich which is a twist to the classical caprese salad.
Caprese salad also known as Insalata Caprese in Italy, is a famous starter made to resemble the Italian flag with the colours red, green and white. This simple salad is made with tomatoes, fresh mozarella and basil leaves seasoned with salt, pepper and olive oil. As I had all the ingredients at hand, I made a sandwich version of this salad. We don’t get Italian basil here and so I used the Indian basil available at my small garden.
This is pretty easy to put together and is so fresh and refreshing. I used my home made mozarella which was so tasty. Take a look at the video I made on home made mozarella. Use fresh ingredients and you will be surely happy with the result.
