Mushroom and Green Peas Biriyani

This is the dish which my mom prepares often. Every one likes her style of Biriyani. My friends were her fans and they would ask me for the recipe. It is such a tasty dish and easy to prepare. My mom uses button mushrooms. As I couldn’t get button mushrooms I used milky mushrooms. It looks very funny. It couldn’t beat the taste of button mushroom. So if you are trying this please use button mushrooms.

Milky mushrooms




 
Ingredients:
 
Rice-1 1/2cup
Mushroom-200gm
Green Peas-1/2cups
Onion-2
Tomato-3
Bay leaf-1
Cloves-3
Cinnamon-2
Maraty moggu-1
Saunf-1tsp
Oil- 2tbs
Ghee- 2tbs
Coconut Milk-4 1/2cups
Turmeric powder-1/2tsp
Salt- to taste
 
For the masala:
 
Ginger- a small piece
Garlic-8 pods
Mint leaves- a handful
Coriander leaves- a handful
Coriander seeds-2tbs
Cumin seeds-1tbs
Red Chilly-4 (if you like it hot add more)
 
Procedure:
 
1. Grind all the ingredients for masala to smooth paste.
2. Grind tomatoes to a fine paste.
3.  Heat oil and add the whole masala and when they splutter add onions.
4. Saute till golden brown. Add the masala paste.
5. When it is finely cooked and oil is separated add peas and tomatoes.
6. When oil gets separated add coconut milk, turmeric powder and salt.
7. When it boils add the rice and cook till a little water remains.
8. Cover the pressure cooker and let it pressure cook for 2 minutes.
9. Remove pressure and add ghee. Mix well and cover the cooker again.
10. Heat an iron dosa pan and when it is hot switch flame to low and keep the pressure cooker on it. 
11. Let it simmer for 30 minutes.
12. Switch off stove and serve hot with onion raitha.

  1. I don’t eat mushrooms…but I think I would like to have in Biryani..looks tasty and colourful…

  2. seems to be very easy but can u tel me at which stage u added the mushroom and for wat purpose we should keep the cooker on a iron dosa pan.

  3. heeloo….lovely biryani…wish i could taste it. Milky mushrooms seem like a new mushroom. I heard its very tasty. we dont get them in Karnataka
