After nearly a gap of one long month, I am here with another post in the Baking Basics Series. If you are new in the world of decorating cakes, then this post might be very useful to you. When I started cake decorating, I had this huge problem of washing my piping tips. As the tip/ nozzle will be filled with butter cream it will be quite greasy. It is almost impossible even to insert a brush to wash it off. If the tip is a fine writing tip then it would be lot tougher. I use to feel miserable when ever I decorated a cake. I felt like crying while cleaning the tips. And one day fortunately I stumbled upon this tip. I just forgot the source because it was so many years back. This tip will make your life easier. If your are a pro then you don’t have to read it as you will be knowing it already. But for beginners I would like to help you like someone helped me years before. So read on to find the method I use to clean my nozzles easily.
So here is my nozzle filled with chocolate buttercream after a decorating class. Let us find out how to clean it..
Drop all your nozzles in a bowl of water.
Place it on stove and bring the water to boil.
After boiling, remove from stove and keep on stirring the nozzles with a fork through the hot water.
You need to stir until all the butter cream melts and leaves the nozzle.
Now pour the water into a small metal sieve or filter to get rid of the dirty water.
Now transfer the nozzles to another bowl of water along with a few drops of liquid soap.
Again bring it to boil. Remove from flame and let it sit on counter for 5 minutes. Keep on swirling the nozzles. All the grease will be washed away by the soap water.
Now pour it back to the filter and wash the nozzles under running water to get rid of the soap.
Arrange all the nozzles on a plate and allow them to dry. Transfer them to their box.
Hope this was helpful. To know more about the Baking Basics Series visit the page.
very useful hints..thanks a lot Gayathri, you always help us giving various cooking tips.
Another option is to pour hot water on the nozzles in a container instead of boiling the water..
That also does an amazing job!
