This is an yummy snack. My daughter loves it. The preparation is also very easy. This is also used in chats. While adding water while preparing the dough, be careful. Besan absorbs very little water. If it is hard to press, then add a little water to make a softer dough.
Ingredients:
Besan- 1cup
Salt-to taste
Oil- to deep fry
Procedure:
- Mix besan and salt. Add water and prepare a firm dough.
- Heat oil in a kadai.
- Using a sev press, press the dough into hot oil to form a spiral.
- Remove the sev from oil when fully cooked and crispy.
- Keep it on a strainer till it cools down.
- Break the sev into small pieces.
- Omapodi is ready.
Use murukku press with a plate with tiny holes
Prepare dough
Fill the murukku press and press out sev directly into hot oil
Remove from oil when done.
Hi Gayatri, Thanks for your comment. There are two names that impressed immediately the moment I saw your profile, one is your name, I always wanted to name my daughter Gayatri ( if I had one), and second your daughter’s name sruti, because I have thought before that, if I was allowed to change my name I would have changed to sruti or swathi. Anyway there’s a suggestion I would like to make If u do not mistake me. Omapodi is so called because it has omam in it, which you seemed to have forgotten in your recipe. Omam is good for digestion and has a nice flavour too, which is what we get in omapodi.
my daughter’s fav snack,luks nice…
