Ponnanganni Keerai also known as water amarnath leaves is a nutritious greens. This helps to increase eyesight. The name itself suggests the benifits of this keerai. Pon means gold. My grand mom used to say that pon agum kan ( you get golden eyes meaning the eyesight improves) is the meaning of the name. There are so many health benifits in this leaves.
According to Ayurveda, if these leaves are fried in ghee and mixed with little pepper and salt and consumed for 48 days, you get a glowing body and cool eyes. These leaves are also good for lactating mothers. It also improves the function of lever.
You need a lot of patience too clean and prepare these leaves for cooking.
The leaves are tiny and the stalk is hard. So you have to collect only the leaf discarding the stalk.
Store these leaves in fridge sealed in zip lock and use it with in 4days. If you need to store a large quantity, then freeze it.
Thank you for sharing the properties of the keerai, I was looking for that in addition to the recipe
