Homemade Muesli Recipe / What flakes Muesli is a very easy to make, filled with healthy ingredients and works as a crunchy topping for various desserts.
Difference between Granola and Muesli
Muesli and granola, both look similar, have similar ingredients and are used as toppings or as individual snacks. So, what is the difference between Granola and Meusli?
The major difference between granola and muesli is the sugar. While granola has a lots of sugar in it, muesli can be made sugar free or with very little sugar.
You can also completely avoid adding butter in muesli, whereas granola has lots of it. Usually a sauce consisting of butter, sugar and some nut butter is added to granola and baked, so that they clump up together. But muesli is quite different in its consistency. You don’t need any ingredient to bind the ingredients.

Homemade Muesli Recipe – Ingredients
Wheat Flakes ( click to buy) – I got a pack of wheat flakes a while back and I planned on making some muesli with it. You can use Oats/ corn flakes instead of wheat flakes or you can combine all of them together. More the ingredients, better the flavour of muesli.
Nuts – I had a lot of nuts in my pantry and used them all in the recipe. Use whichever nut you have in hand. Roasting them prior to adding to the Muesli is very important. That will help keeping your muesli fresh for a longer time.
Seeds – Seeds add a nice crunch to your muesli. Add any seed you love. You can add pumpkin seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Watermelon Seeds and Cucumber Seeds. Avoid very tiny seeds like chia, flax and sesame as they tend to settle at the bottom.
Butter – Adding butter is completely optional. As you are dry roasting all the ingredients, it is not necessary. But I love the butter flavour, so added some melted butter.
Salt – This too is optional. Add it only if you love the combination of salt and sweet in any recipe.
Dry Fruits – These add the needed sweetness to the Muesli. It is again according to individual preference. I have added cranberries, golden raisins and black raisins. You can also add cherries, blueberries and blackberries.

Like all my recent recipes, I also have made a tiny video to go with the recipe. It has been posted in my Instagram account. Please take a look if you love to visualize any recipe.
Roasting Ingredients for Homemade Muesli
I have roasted all the ingredients in my oven. I find it easier and mess free. But you can also roast it on stove top. Use a pan and ladle, keep stirring until it is golden. Make sure to keep flame medium or medium low so that they don’t burn.

Wheat flakes Muesli has become one of our favourite snacks nowadays. I guess I will make one more batch with the remaining wheat flakes. After that I will try it with a different flake.
