Milk or yogurt can be used as the base of any smoothie. I have already tried with milk but have never done with yogurt. So for today’s post I tried adding yogurt in my smoothie. This is also part of my diet and I loved having this. But let me share with you the experience I had with today’s smoothie. As I can’t add sugar, I thought the apple’s sweetness would be enough for the smoothie. But when I made it, I felt it very bland. I have never felt this way with milk based smoothies. My daughter tried a sip and gave me back the glass.
I was breaking my head about how to improve the taste and bring out the sweetness in this smoothie. I remembered someone saying that salt brings out the sweetness in dishes. I love to add salt to fruits and found it enhances the sweetness in them, but I was not sure of smoothies. But no harm in trying, right, So I added a generous pinch of salt with the smoothie and tasted it again. I was so surprised that the taste was so nice with an enhanced sweetness. Now I again asked Sruti to taste it and now she gave me a thumbs up. So next time when making yogurt based smoothies, I will surely add some salt with it. If you haven’t tried this, try it next time you make it. You will love it for sure.
I also added some soaked chia seeds to the smoothie. That added a nice texture to the smoothie. Chia is one of the super seeds and is a best ingredient to be added in paleo dishes. I first tasted chia when Priya gave a batch on a meet. Then fortunately I found a pack of chia seeds in a super market near our house. Though it is expensive, I was happy to get that in Madurai. Today I made some bakery style vegetable puffs and my house was filled with wonderful aroma. But I resisted my urge to eat that. When my daughter was enjoying it, I satisfied myself with this smoothie.
Ingredients:
Apple -1
Curd / Yogurt – 1 cup
Salt – a generous pinch
Chia Seeds – 1 tbs, soaked in water
Procedure:
Soak chia seeds in enough water and let it bloom.
In a juicer jar add peeled, sliced apple, yogurt and salt.
Run the mixer until it is smooth.
Add ice cubes and run the mixer.
Add the soaked chia seeds, mix them well and pour into glasses.
Serve immediately.

Adding chia seeds to a smoothie makes it more healthy, this smoothie looks fabulous.
Living in US, I still have not made anything with Chia seeds. I am definitely going to try adding a little salt next time I make my smoothie.

Hi madam, I am keen in following the paleo diet. Hence following your guidelines. By curd do you mean our regular home made curd. Thank you once again for the best recipes.
Shilpa, curd is the normal homemade yogurt. I need to mention that fruits should be taken only during maintenance diet. If you are under weight loss, do not take.
