Today is the final day of the Blogging Marathon and I wanted to end it with my daughter’s favourite cake. Yes, the chocolate cake! I bought a silicon daisy mould two months back but never baked anything in it. Today I tried it and wow, it is very nice. No greasing or dusting. The cake comes out of the mould easily. I think I am going to search for more shapes and sizes. It is very rare to get silicon moulds in Madurai. Coming to the cake, I tried out a recipe from Tarla Dalal’s book. It uses both butter and oil and uses lots of baking powder. The cake was so soft and moist. It was so delicate to handle and was so delicious. I am linking this to Kid’s Delight– Eggless and Vegan Bakes guest hosted by Priya and started by Srivalli.
Ingredients:
Flour-1cup
Baking Powder-1 tsp
Baking Soda-1/2 tsp
Cocoa Powder-1/3cup
Water-1/2cup
Vanilla Essence-1tsp
Oil-45ml
Melted Butter-45ml
Castor Sugar-3/4cup
Procedure:
1. In a bowl add melted butter, oil and sugar. If you don’t have castor sugar, then add powdered sugar.
2. Whisk well until sugar dissolves.
3. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa powder.
4. Add water to the butter mixture and whisk well.
5. Add the flour mixture and mix it gently using a wooden spoon.
6. Pour the batter into silicon moulds or a 7″cake tin.
7. Preheat oven to 160C.
8. Bake the cake for 15minutes if using small moulds and 25-35minutes for a single tin.
9. Check with a tooth pick. When done transfer to wire rack and allow it to cool completely.
10. Serve and Enjoy.

Arthi:wen t comes to baking I invariably turn to ur blog which I hav bookmarked. M a beginner in baking. I hav a basic otg. My doubt is fr how long must I preheat and Wat is the temp fr baking. M askin this wit reference to al ur baking posts
Hi Arthi, Thank you so much for the nice words. OTG needs to be preheated for about 10-15 minutes. Baking temperature varies according to the dish you are baking. I usually give it in Celsius. Just set it in your oven, preheat it and then bake.
Dear Gayathri,
I came across your blog whils searching for eggless chocolate cake recipies.
and now I am overwhelmed by the amout of eggless recipies you have here! cant wait to try them all out!
I have a question, here you have mentioned that you used silicon moulds. Please pardon me, would they work in an OTG? because you mentioned about preheating the oven to 160 deg C. I would be thankful if you help me out as I am a beginner and do not know much. If I need to bake this in a microwave, how long do I bake it for and at what setting. Thanks so much
Hi Sargam, Thank you so much for the nice words. You can use silicon mould in OTG and MW. If you have the MW and convection type then set your MW to convection mode and bake it as given in the recipe. MW oven works just like OTG in the convection mode. IF you have more doubts please feel free to contact me..
Thank you Gayathri 🙂 I am baking tonight and will let you know how it turns out!
Gayathri, I made your version of perfectly perfect chocolate cake and I must say my search for the perfec chocolate cake recipie has ended finally 🙂 thanks so much! it turned out superb..vanished in 30 minutes!
hey i will be baking (for the first time ever) this cake soon. I am overwhelmed with the number of eggless recipes available here. can u pls guide as to how do i preheat a microwave on a certain temperature as i have no idea as to how should i go about it. I am going to be baking for the first time.
Hi Amrietaa, set your oven to convection mode and set the temperature. Once the oven reaches the temperature, it beeps and you can bake your cake in that. If it is only microwave mode, then you should not start the oven empty, but in convection mode you can heat it when empty. Hope this helps..
hi gayathri
i tried this recipe with the same amount of ingredients and it was so delicious and i could not believe it is eggless. but the cake dint rise,in fact it had gone down. also the cake was a bit crumbly and dint hold shape. what could be the problem? kindly help.
