This is a lip smacking gravy which goes well with rice and appalam. Prepared in till seed oil, it is very tasty.
Small onion-20
Single garlic (Oru Poondu)-20
Tamarind- a small lemon sized ball
Sambar powder-1 1/2tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Salt-to taste
Till oil-3tbs
Methi powder-1/2tsp(roast methi and powder it in a mixer)
Mustard, Methi seeds, Urad dhal, Curry leaves- for seasoning
Procedure:
1. Heat oil and splutter 1tsp mustard, urad dhal and 1/4tsp methi seeds and curry leaves.
2. Add onions and garlic. Saute till onions are golden brown and garlics tender.
3. Add tamarind juice, sambar powder, turmeric powder and salt.
4.Cook on low flame. When little water remains add methi powder and cook till oil floats.
5. Serve hot with rice and appalam.
I love this kozhambu.. my mom used to make this.. drooling here.. i love it extra spicy..

I too add venthayam for flavor.. but never tried adding pwd as i thought it will give it a bitter taste.. must have to try it!
