Since the mango season started blogosphere is flooded with mango recipes and one of the most posted recipes is the Mango Mastani. Mango Mastani’s origin can be traced back to Pune. It is a mango milkshake usually served with icecream and nuts. But I have made a little different version. As I told you earlier, I am trying to give only healthy foods to Sruti and though she was asking me for a glass of mango mastani for a long time, I was just postponing it. Many recipes I read used icecream in both the milk shake and the topping. I wanted to skip the icecream part but didn’t have a clear idea of what to do instead.
So what is probiotic? Usually we tend to be afraid of bacteria and our body thrives to keep the bad bacteria out. But there are also good bacteria which helps us. Those are called as probiotics and the drinks loaded with such probiotics are called as probiotic drinks. Yogurt is one of the vastly used probiotic drink. While yogurt contains just 2-7 types of probiotics, kefir contains 10-34 types of probiotics. Kefir is nowadays available at some speciality stores. The most common probiotic drink available is Yakult, which I haven’t tried so far. But the problem with store bough ones is the added flavours and preservatives and sugar.
My daughter is a chocoholic and she also loves her coffee. She loves every drink I make based on these two ingredients. So for this summer, I wanted to make her a drink which will awe her. I kept it as a secret from her. I made the mocha and refrigerated it two days back. And on the day of serving, she was so surprised that I took out the cream and was whipping it with some coffee. As she knows that I will never taste that cream, it can mean only one thing, it was for her and she started nagging me with questions. What are you doing? I said surprise!
I think you guys remember my post on Butter tea a while back. After starting with my diet, that was my breakfast most of the days. I actually omitted the tea and mixed only milk and butter. But when I left for Delhi, my hubby was left to make it for himself. And he tried to make it with tea leaves. When I returned back, he told me that adding tea leaves made the tea more delicious and he felt so full until mid afternoon. So I decide to make it again. But before attempting it again, I wanted to check out the perfect recipe for the tea.
Last week I spent five days in Delhi with my food blogger friends and enjoyed it so much. I will be writing about my adventures in Delhi in a while. As I was away from home, I didn’t even check my blog for the last seven days. After coming back, I was so tired, I couldn’t again sit to write in the blog. Today I am back to my dieting and love to share with you a very important drink which we have been drinking for the past 45 days.
I will be sharing the recipes for vegetarian paleo diet and meal plans so that those who follow vegetarian paleo find it easy to cook. When I started paleo, I didn’t even know what to make. But after 16 days of cooking, I have already got the hang of it. Using only vegetables and paneer, now I create new dishes everyday so that it doesn’t become a boring affair. Let us start with a basic recipe.
Milk or yogurt can be used as the base of any smoothie. I have already tried with milk but have never done with yogurt. So for today’s post I tried adding yogurt in my smoothie. This is also part of my diet and I loved having this. But let me share with you the experience I had with today’s smoothie. As I can’t add sugar, I thought the apple’s sweetness would be enough for the smoothie. But when I made it, I felt it very bland. I have never felt this way with milk based smoothies. My daughter tried a sip and gave me back the glass.
Smoothies are so easy to make. Add whatever fruit you have it at hand with milk or yogurt and run it in a mixer. Your smoothie is ready in a minute. If you are following normal diet, add sugar as per your taste. But as I have mentioned earlier, I am on paleo diet and sugar is a great no no. Even fruits and milk has to be had in moderation . That is why we divided the amount given in the recipe into three portions and had it in the evening.
I love the taste of musk melon and we used to cube it, add sugar and serve it chilled. When I saw this at the fruit shop, I bought home one to make the above preparation. But then I started paleo diet and I didn’t want to add sugar to it. I was also not sure whether my daughter would like it as she is the only person who is having sugar at home. So I decided to make a smoothie instead. When I sliced the musk melon, I was surprised that it was not at all sweet.
Wishing You All A Very Happy Pongal
Harvest Festival is celebrated in different parts of India with different names but it is such a great part of our people. Fresh produce is used to make festive dishes and people take part in various games, they visit temples, visit relatives and friends and this is such a joyous occasion. I remember celebrating Sankranti in Mysore. We used to dress up so nicely and take ellu bella packs to all the neighbours and friends and it used to be so amazing. But nowadays, the getting together is missing so much. I myself confine myself to our home. Without mom, there is no one to talk to and it is becoming so boring nowadays. Guess, this is the side effect of getting old!!
